good Time to roll on, good Time to roll on, good Time to roll on (and so on and so on...)

due to (a simply f-ing awesome time at) wefest last year, i missed TWO, count em 2!, kings of leon shows at first ave. this year, they shall not be slipping, sliding or shimmieing past me (nor you?). i have 3 sets of tix (psssst: 5 of which i won't be using!) for the nov 1 show at the orpheum theater. who's in?!
KOL looked, has looked for years, like this. very 90's!
but they've since upDated! yummers.well, when trying to directly post the video link from youtube it says it's no longer avail, but then i go there and watch it (a minimum of 12 times in a row, each time). meh - i'll just offer it to you Like This... as long as you're getting there!
you have to listen to the new single, too. it's called 'sex on fire.' need i say more?! no. so GO!

louix xiv - sunday's show

remember when i was so excited to see them when there were the first of 3 bands??? expecting them to be all dirty, dirty?

imagine the thrill i felt from a headliner show!

a bunch of us started out at the loring pasta bar ... 2 booths away from none-other-than theirs truely. it was barry's bday at midnight, so he was well lit, & we supposed we wouldn't be considered good friends if we weren't far behind, even if it was a sunday ... and easter.
men dancing like fools = entertaining.

soooo, as expected, their performance was awesome.
here's a fun link to the 'guilt by association' video, which has crazy quick flashes between scenes and this website shows the video shots separated out - pretty cool.

the drowsy chaperone - friday's entertainment

kirsten thought she'd lost the free tix, but at the last moment while not searching for them, they appeared!
also, i had dinner plans at pf chang's with my parents, but they cancelled the easter trip down here due to the weather.
point being, the stars aligned and i got to be escorted to broadway!!!
i certainly hope she doesn't get a boyfriend anytime soon. (sorry dear ;)
cause, i'm getting some great invites and as her first friend in minneapolis, and i'm taking advantage & hope to continue!!!

what do you think when you have plans to go to the theater (in this case, add that it's a frickin musical! ahhhhh!) ???
- snoozer! ... i hope i don't fall asleep
- please don't be long enough to require intermission
- must pray the person next to me isn't large enough to spill into my seat
- crossing my fingers that the person in front of me doesn't have huge hair

and except for the latterest, all prayers were answered!

the drowsy chaperone was marvelous, simple wonderful.

it was entertaining, funny, witty and charming. the plot was unique and interesting. the songs were cute, the voices great. the set was simple, yet elegant. the costumes perfect.

1 hour and 40 minutes Flew by :)

lovity time. and now that it is no longer in town, there's my raving, details omitted, review!

the hives - first ave

adjectives to describe, include: conceited, arrogant, loud, spastic, over-energized, and crazy.
i LOVED it! this will for sure be the last time they'll play in such a small venue, so thankfully sammer got caitlin and i in! gracias, sir :)

simple background - they don't think they need any other theatrics. they don't.

they start with matching black and white suits. it's their thing. it works for them. and me. being it was nearly 1000 degrees in there, though, they've stipped down some.

example of how Pelle's feet were so much more often not on the floor than they were. he climbed out over the speakers entering the stage for the encore. lunatic. in a good way!

they are the only band on the planet whose myspace page only allows listeners a taste of each song, as they fade out after 60 seconds er so. punks!
here's the tick tick boom video for ya, too.

shoulda known i'd be 'in' for tonight's entertainment - mgmt @ 7th st entry

well, i finally landed my spot in the venue - i got tixs for tonight's mgmt performance. the stinker of a show was set up to be played in the smallest venue in the city, outside of your basement.
this is possibly the worst seat in the house (not quite as bad as target's worst, in my opinion):
it also has been shown to be quite the attraction, selling out weeks ago. i begged connections to find better connections, emailed the current who is sponsoring it & asked the production managers at first ave/entry - nothing came of that.
apparently, although not a great place to find a hot-sexy-date, craigslist is the perfect spot to find a music "partner."
OR potentially you can do both at once (according to this real ad posted this morning)!!! "Who do it have to sleep with for MGMT tickets? - $20" i not only paid face value for 2 tixs from tim, i'm also on the guest list. wait... do i have to put out now!?!? oh, well :) how do i do it? await my next post - i'll tell you...
their website
even better is the myspace page!

top 5 shows i attended in 2007 -and the 1 dumpy one

in response to brody's request for my -->
for absolute:
1. minus the bear
2. cold war kids
3. modest mouse - second show i saw (december one)
4. cinematics/bravery
5. cribs/white rabbits OR white rabbits/tokyo police club - i just like the white rabbits LOTS. the cribs sound sucked even though i love love love the disc "mens needs womens needs whatever". and i hadn't heard of TPC until the week of the show, so had not enough opportunity to get to know them to love the show - they really aren't my style anyway.
*i'd maybe add spoon, but it was my 30th bday and i was too cocktailed to know for sure??? :(

& in last place:
just disappointing rather ... badly drawn boy. didn't play much i knew & ended by covering an f-ing journey song. journey people! ish.

modest mouse & completely-missed-the-opener

a shot-gun appearance was made by me for this great, great, great one. i had a legal volunteer thingy in anoka i was in attendance at (with the show very much on my mind). the crowd was amazingly large and there were Several attorney's there stepping on each others toes, only literally. i decided at 715 to hit the road & see what i could do about fixing the horrible mistake i'd made by not buying a tix (like a sane me should have already done).
PLUG for my generosity: i was a volunteer lawyer at the wills for heroes event. i'm so nice.
back to the show... i looked like an asshat at the orpheum and am surprised anyone offered me a tix, much less talked to me at all! i was nearly suited up, whilst Everyone else was urban grudged out (does that mean anything to anyone???). i may have ruined the surprise that i did get in in that last sentence by insinuating that i did get a tix (or i suppose by blogging about it at all? opps), so no surprise, but i got in!
modest mouse is such a talented band. their cds sound sooooo fabulous, and they're so engaging, and so melodic and smooth - even on their rager songs. -live is another story, however. i don't think Isaac knows how to relax when he's on stage. the thrill of it all-the excitement-his intense body movements-and whatever else rule the performance. so, while the music is uber utterly terrific for already-fans, i wouldn't say i'd buy their album if that was all i had to go on. was the show good? heck yeah!!! i will go again and again and again. me lovity ye!ah the smell of pot in the air while isaac uses the guitar strings as a sort-of-microphone - priceless. the fav as i call ragers? tiny cities made of ashes (my overall fav, too) & spitting venom (the very last song) & fly trapped in a jar. they also played the inevitables dashboard & float on. what else? k. satin in a coffin, fire it up, we've got everything, education, and the one that says "god wouldn't want to be such an asshole" in it.

the cadence of 2 drum sets (again! - love it when they do that) and whatever else they used. as illustrated here some blowy thing that gurgled? in addition there were horns and strings and an accordion, too!
yes, eeeeeeeeeeexcellent.

Gabriel & Dresden

the bathrooms were the coolest part, but the tunes were quite nifty, too ;)

G&B R.O.C.K.E.D. out, as much as you can "rock out" behind a dj booth - just listen here.
jb's right! my ears are bleeding and there were a lot of glow sticks.
and like i said, i'm behind on the posting, so i'll just allow him to elaborate on this one: nice assessment, sir!

ari herstand & white light riot & the alarmists & this world fair

aka: the unknown order. before each equally lengthed set, the host drew from a hat of sorts the band that was to next take the stage. Khanh's opinion of this: that's so stupid. and it kind of is - difficult for scheduling - but different and fun? who knows. back to the point of this entry ... how was the show? great!
i LOVE the varsity. pretty! it is hands down the best venue of its size and not of its size. just the best. granted, dave matthews might not book it, cause of the limited capacity, but he'd put on a great show there.
i'm only going to discuss my fav. why? because i'm behind on my blogging. a. lot.

white light riot is my winner. can't believe they're only "just local." they sound so amazing live - record-quality sound on stage - aka the vocals don't suck at all, like many voices do in person. check out midway souvenirs on their myspace: awesome much? very. my opinion is that they are gonna make it big (ger, anyway)!

cheers, boys!

band of horses & some crap

we won't even discuss the openers, as that would bring up hugly painful memories.
well, as far as attitudes go, it didn't go too much better in our headliner's opinion. music? good. a cranky singer-man = bad.

band of horses is fantastic, in my opinion, but ben is a lil whiny baby. problem: something about monitors sucking - ear-plugs went in they went out, microphones where twirled and shoved, even knocked to the stage floor, lotsa huffiness spattered around. i was almost against the raging applause the audience offered to encourage an adult performance, but i joined hoping he'd realize that everything on our side of where the curtain lays.
side note: really have trouble with lay, lie, lies, lay's??? help.

i was shocked, but they returned to the stage for a 3 song encore.
the final message to the crowd: "hope to see you again soon. next time in the room next door."
my unvoiced retort: that sounded F-ing fantastic!, ya lil bitch.

robbers on high street & great northern

loved loved loved
great northern impressed my friends lotsly. they were not what i was expecting, but nevertheless were very enjoyable & i will be seeking out their album fo sho. listen to "low is a height": awesome much? yep.

robbers on high street were as i remember them. GREAT. i love that guy's voice! can't get enough. the entry was emptier than i liked, cause i want them to come back. maybe they don't remember, though, as there was much amounts of alcohol thrown about. the mood was one of celebration, because it was the last night the bands were touring with one another. cheers, i say!
